Your own word examples

Add a sentence that helps you remember a word. Pinyin is filled in for you, and Tomyo can fill an empty translation. You can write a separate example, replace a shared example for yourself or hide it. Your examples are private and can also appear in the word explanation during a study session.

Adding an example

Choose Add your example on the word page. Enter a short Chinese sentence and its translation. You do not need to type pinyin. An empty translation is filled automatically; Translate requests it again. A translation you typed yourself is not overwritten automatically.

You can save up to three personal examples per word. Replacing a shared example also uses a slot. If the target word is not found in the sentence, the form asks you to confirm; this can be valid when the word is used in separated form.

Replacing or hiding a shared example

Editing a shared example creates your own version; other learners keep the original. Restore original removes your replacement. You can show a hidden example again without recreating it.

Where examples appear

The word page shows your full set. A study explanation has limited space: your examples and replacements come first, followed by the remaining shared examples. Hidden shared examples are left out there too.

Personal examples do not become shared exercises or appear on public word pages. Other learners do not see them.

What to do if…

I cannot add another example

Check both personal examples and replacements; they share one limit. Delete an unused personal example or restore a shared original to free a slot.

My example did not appear in the session

The word page has more room than a session explanation. With several personal examples, only the first part of the set fits. Tasks with predefined answers use shared exercises.
