Sharing a text and working together

Share gives people access to a text through a link. In reading mode, they can save an independent copy. In collaboration mode, they join your material: everyone uses the same questions and submits their own answers. These modes differ in both permissions and what remains after access closes.

Reading through a link

The owner enables the link and chooses whether to show questions and their own answers. Guests can read the allowed material without signing in. Saving a copy or adding a dictionary word requires an account.

Save a copy creates an independent text. Later changes to your original do not update that copy, and disabling the link does not delete it from the reader's library.

Working together

In this mode, an invited reader chooses Work on this text and becomes a participant. They answer the shared questions and comment on answers they can see. The owner sees participant answers. Other participants usually see an answer after submitting their own to the same question; the owner can disable this visibility.

The owner's private note, essay draft and feedback history are not shared with participants. You can report an answer or comment.

Closing access

Disabling the link stops new people from joining. Existing participants remain; the owner can remove them separately. A participant who leaves loses their answers and comments. If the owner deletes the text, all participants lose access.

If you switch to reading mode and enable sharing your own answers, existing participants can see the owner's answers straight away. They do not need to answer first to view those openly shared owner answers.

What to do if…

I disabled the link, but participants still see the text

The link controls access for new readers. Remove a specific participant from the participant list to end their access.

I cannot see another participant's answer

Answer the same question first. If the answer is still hidden, the owner may have disabled viewing other answers. The owner can see participant answers regardless of that setting.
