Texts

Texts lets you read stories built around your vocabulary, study Chinese texts you bring in and write essays with feedback. Materials stay in your library. You can return to them, add questions or invite other learners to work on the same text.

Three ways to create a text

Open Practice → Texts and use the add button. Generate prepares a story from your vocabulary; you can choose its length and a word collection. Paste a text turns Chinese writing from another source into a text you can study. Write your own opens an essay with a draft and feedback.

A generated text needs words from your dictionary. Pasting an existing text does not. If generation takes time, wait for the result; the translation may arrive after the Chinese text.

Your library

The list contains saved texts, essay drafts and materials you have joined. The Type filter separates your own texts from generated ones. New materials appear first.

You can select several cards and remove them from the list. Removing a shared text owned by someone else means leaving it. Deleting your own collaborative text removes access for its participants.

Plans and editing

Basic has daily limits on generation and adding your own texts. Plus allows longer texts and lets you edit a finished text; each material has a limited number of edits. Before changing a text with questions, read the warning: existing questions and answers may be reset.

What to do if…

I cannot create a text

For generation, check that your dictionary has words you have studied and that you have not used your daily allowance. For pasted text, check that it is mostly Chinese and within the length limit. The form shows the reason when it cannot continue.

A shared text has disappeared

The owner may have deleted the text or removed you as a participant. An independent saved copy works differently: it is yours and does not depend on later changes to the original.
