Practice
The daily session
A daily session is built from your dictionary and review dates. Basic sessions cover words; Plus also includes grammar and radicals. The size and amount of new material adjust to your workload, so you can consolidate what you have studied and gradually add more.
Three tracks in one session
- Words — the core: recognising, understanding and using them.
- Grammar — rules and constructions, drilled through exercises.
- Radicals — the parts characters are assembled from; knowing them makes new characters readable rather than a random set of strokes.
Each track has its own material and reviews. On Plus, they alternate within one session. The mix depends on available material and accumulated reviews.
Why sessions are short
The size is capped on purpose. Short daily sittings achieve noticeably more than rare long ones: language rests on regularity, and a long session is easier to skip than a short one.
The size is not fixed: with reviews piled up the session grows so the backlog clears faster, and returns to normal once the queue is worked through.
The daily limit
Basic allows one session per day; quick review uses the same allowance. With a large backlog, Tomyo may allow an extra review-only session. A session counts when started: closing and reopening it does not restore the allowance.
When a break appears
On Plus, daily intensity limits sessions with new material. After that limit, Tomyo stops adding new words and bringing future reviews forward. If too few words are due, you see a break message. Return when more reviews are due, or use separate practice.
Controls and saving
On the website, use number keys to select answers and Enter or Space to continue. In sentence-building tasks, tap words to add them. Answers are saved during the session. If a save error appears, restore the connection and retry before leaving.
