Getting started

Recent words widget

The Tomyo widget shows recently studied words on your phone screen, with characters, pinyin and a translation. It is available in the iOS and Android apps and uses account data saved on the device. Switching a widget word does not count as a study answer.

Adding the widget

Install the app, sign in and open the dashboard. Find Tomyo in your phone's widget picker. iOS has home-screen and lock-screen options; Android adds the widget to the home screen. The app settings also have installation guidance.

Where the words come from

The set contains words you have studied recently. The widget reads a set saved on the device; opening the dashboard and background app updates help refresh it. Previously saved words remain available without a connection.

Switching and refreshing

On Android, tapping cycles to another word. Supported iOS versions let you switch through the interactive widget; iOS also rotates words on a schedule. The system decides when background updates run, so new words may arrive with a delay.

What to do if…

The widget is empty

Open the app, check that you are signed in, study and return to the dashboard. The widget needs a saved set of recent words. If it is still empty, try adding it again.

I still see old words after studying

Open the dashboard with an internet connection and let the system refresh the widget. Background updates do not happen after every answer and can be delayed by phone restrictions.
