New iPhone design and reading with Tomyo
Rearrange tabs on iPhone, break down sentences in the news, and listen to dialogues by each line. You can add your own questions to texts, and Tomyo will explain how Chinese works.
iPhone design
iPhone- Compact panels, light cards, and glass tabs in Dictionary, Practice, and Materials.
- Arrange tabs to your liking: press and hold a tab, choose “Reorder,” and drag it.
- Settings are grouped into three sections: “Study,” “App,” and “Help & Account.”
News and texts
iPhoneAndroid- In the news and “Text of the Day,” tap a word to open a card with translation, audio, and the option to add it to your dictionary.
- Open the whole sentence to see its translation and listen to it separately.
- On iPhone, audio, pinyin, translation, text size, and font are always at hand in the bottom panel.
Dialogues
iPhoneAndroid- Speakers’ lines appear in bubbles on the left and right, like in a chat.
- Listen to each line separately. Tapping again stops the audio, and holding copies the Chinese phrase.
Questions about the text
WebiPhoneAndroid- When generating, choose from one to five questions and specify whether you want answer options.
- Add your own questions to existing ones—up to five in total. Previous questions and answers are kept.
Your own example
WebiPhoneAndroid- Write a sentence for a word—pinyin will be filled in automatically, and Tomyo will fill in an empty translation.
- You can get a new translation with the “Translate” button or write your own. Your version won’t be overwritten.
Ask Tomyo
WebiPhoneAndroid- Ask a question about Chinese—get a short explanation and an example.
- Ask about Tomyo—the assistant will answer based on the help center and provide links to articles. If there’s no answer, it will suggest contacting support.
Lessons
iPhone- Updated word review session screen
Example voice
iPhoneAndroid- HSK 1–3 word examples now use the same voice you selected for words.
Fixes
WebiPhoneAndroid- Quick toggles in “Share” no longer get lost, and settings changed on another device are visible when you open the app.
- On iPhone, holding characters to copy no longer interferes with scrolling the dictionary.
- On Android, downloaded grammar rules no longer disappear during a temporary network failure and don’t require re-login.
