How to say "correct" in Chinese

对 is a single-character adjective meaning 'correct' or 'right'. It can stand alone as a response, or be used in sentences like 你说得对 (nǐ shuō de duì) — 'what you say is correct'.

Use 对 when someone states a fact you agree with, or asks if something is true. It's casual and works in any situation, from chatting with friends to answering a teacher. Don't use it to mean 'yes' to a request — for that, say 好的 (hǎo de) or 可以 (kěyǐ).
