Chinese numbers

Months in Chinese

Chinese months have no names, only numbers: a digit plus 月 ("moon, month"). January is 一月, December is 十二月.

The twelve months

January or "one month"

  • 一月 is January, while 一个月 (yí ge yuè) is a period of one month. The measure word 个 turns the name into an amount.
  • In a month name two is 二: 二月 (February). In a length of time it is 两: 两个月 (two months).
  • This, last and next month take 个 too: 这个月, 上个月, 下个月.
